Cambodia has so much to offer tourists and we at Food Explorer can think of 101 reasons as to why this country should be at the top of your travel list but we will just list our top 10 for now.
Maybe we are slightly biased but a big part of our travel experience will ultimately be through our enjoyment of tasting food from other cultures. Cambodia offers some of the most flavourful food which can be enjoyed by visiting the bustling markets and street vendors. This is where you can try cheap authentic Khmer dishes. We guarantee you will keep going back for more.
Cambodia is still a developing country and for that reason the locals will welcome you with open arms as they are reliant on their tourist trade. Many of them speak English which makes it so much easier for us when asking for travel directions or simply ordering a meal.
See the spectacular temples. The national symbol of Cambodia happens to be the Angkor Wat. This temple was built by King Suryavarman II in the 12th century and is known as the largest religious monument in the world. Other monuments well worth a visit are Bayon and Ta Prohm.
Cambodia is a gateway to neighbouring countries including Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. It is easy to access these countries very cheaply by bus.
Cambodia has some of the best beaches and islands in the world which are relatively untouched. There are many to choose from including Koh Rong, Koh Ta Kiev and Koh Rong Sanloem.
Cambodia is home to some incredible national parks housing some of the most rare species of wildlife which you won’t find anywhere else in the world. Some of the parks which are well worth visiting are Virachey National Park and Bokor National Park (which has spectacular waterfalls which you can even swim in). There is also a lush tropical jungle waiting to be explored.
Cambodia is rich in culture and history which is proudly shown off by the Cambodian people. They do this by putting on a traditional dance or a stage show. Incidentally some of the Cambodian traditions are hundreds of years old.
Cambodia offers you the best value for money and it makes it ideal for those of you who are on a budget. Accommodation is cheaper than anywhere else in the western world. Food is amazingly cheap and so too is transport.
Cambodian nightlife has something for everyone whether it be a quiet drink in one of their beer gardens watching the sun go down or a crazy drunken night at a karaoke bar or club dancing to the latest sounds. These people know how to keep you up way past your bedtime.
Cambodia’s tourism industry has taken a huge hit due to Covid-19 with travel bans in place around the world. You may not know this but 25 percent of Cambodia’s economy is dependent on tourism. Many people are without jobs and are suffering as a result. Let’s put Cambodia on our Must Go list once the world returns to a new normal.
